There is no universal stain remover. Every stain belongs to a chemical family — protein-based (blood, urine, milk), tannin (wine, coffee, tea, fruit juice), oil-based (grease, cooking oil, hand cream), or dye-based (ink, ketchup, beetroot). We identify the type, check the fibre composition of your carpet or fabric, and select the appropriate spotting agent. Our arsenal includes enzyme digesters for organic stains, oxidising agents for tannin and dye marks, solvent-based removers for grease, and reducing agents for stubborn colour bleeds. We apply each with controlled dwell times, agitation, and extraction — never scrubbing aggressively enough to damage the fibres.
Red wine, coffee, tea, fruit juices, and coloured soft drinks leave behind strong dye stains that can set quickly. Fresh spills should be blotted with a clean cloth immediately — never rubbed, which pushes the stain deeper. For set-in marks, we use an oxygen-based oxidising agent that breaks the chromophore bonds of the dye, lifting the colour without bleaching the carpet. This method is safe for wool, nylon, and polypropylene alike.
Pet urine is more than a stain — it contains uric acid crystals that bond to carpet fibres and re-activate with humidity, causing recurring odours. Our enzyme-based treatments digest the uric acid completely, neutralising the odour at source. For older, repeatedly cleaned stains that have changed colour, we may need multiple treatments. Vomit and faeces are treated first with a protein-digesting enzyme, then a full extraction rinse to remove residue. We always sanitise affected areas to eliminate bacteria.
Ballpoint pen, marker, and printer ink spills require a solvent-based approach. We use a specialised ink remover that dissolves the pigment without spreading it. The process is delicate — ink is designed to be permanent, and success depends on the fibre type, ink chemistry, and how long the stain has been present. We always test a concealed area first and set realistic expectations before beginning treatment.
Grease — from cooking, hand cream, or machinery — repels water-based cleaners. We use a solvent-based degreasing agent that breaks the surface tension of the oil, allowing it to be lifted and extracted. For deep-set grease on polypropylene carpets (which are oil-absorbent), we may apply a poultice that draws the grease to the surface over several hours before extraction. Patience is key, and results on old grease stains vary.
While we achieve excellent results on the vast majority of stains, not every mark can be fully removed. Stains that have been heat-set (by hot water, a heater, or a steam cleaner), chemically bleached by previous cleaning attempts, or ground deep into the backing of the carpet may leave a permanent shadow. We always give you an honest assessment before we begin — if a stain is unlikely to come out completely, we will tell you upfront. Our goal is to improve the appearance as much as possible without causing damage to your carpet or fabric.
The best treatment is quick action. Blot fresh spills with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Avoid over-the-counter carpet stain removers that can set or bleach the stain.
